

Riverlife's Active School Excursions offer a range of exciting adventure activities for all! Students are able to experience the thrill of an outdoor adventure in a fun, friendly and safe setting.
Our location, a short ferry ride from Brisbane’s CBD, offers a window into the geography,
history and culture of Brisbane. Our programs challenge students physically and mentally in a non-competitive and relaxing environment. Students learn a range of skills to solve problems in unfamiliar situations, make decisions, and improve self-awareness and interpersonal relationships.
Riverlife can cater for up to 120 students at a time. Our friendly instructors are qualified and experienced and are happy to cater to your individual needs. Our amenities include change areas, complimentary lockers and sunscreen.

Kayaking
Rain or shine, your students will love kayaking on Brisbane River! Riverlife kayaking sessions
are guided by qualified and experienced instructors. Each session includes instruction, a safety briefing and equipment check. Students will learn how to paddle, turn and stop a kayak as well as how to get back in if they fall out.
On the river, they will participate in team building games and activities including paddling while standing, gondola style; rafting in a line and walking on the kayak backs and kayak soccer, surfing and basketball and more.
Years 5–12
This program aims to:
» provide students with an enjoyable physical activity, a scenic kayak (up to 5km)
» teach kayaking skills while providing team building games and activities
» allow students to have fun while they acquire skills for lifelong participation in physical activity
» demonstrate behaviors that promote personal and group safety in this aquatic environment
» enhance communication and cooperation skills in team situations
» develop gross motor skills, coordination and fitness
» provide an opportunity for socialization
» build self-esteem
» highlight the geographical and historical features of the area

Rock Climbing
Adventure and challenge on the 200 million year old Kangaroo Point Cliffs! Riverlife rock climbing sessions are guided by qualified and experienced instructors. Each session includes instruction, a safety briefing and equipment check. Students must wear and use the safety equipment provided by Riverlife. Safety equipment includes a helmet, harness, rope and chalk.
Climbing teaches trust in others as well as good communication and problem solving skills. Climbs of various levels of difficulty are available to suit the ability of your students.
Years 5–12
This program, which focuses on trust and communication, aims to:
» provide students with a challenging physical activity
» demonstrate behaviors that promote personal and group safety
» develop communication skills
» promote positive relationships
» build self-esteem through a sense of competence and accomplishment

Abseiling
Step off the edge of the Kangaroo Point Cliffs into a vertical world! Riverlife abseiling sessions
are guided by qualified and experienced instructors. Each session includes instruction, a safety briefing and equipment check. Students must wear and use the safety equipment provided by Riverlife. Safety equipment includes a helmet, harness, rope and gloves.
With trust overcoming natural instinct, students will abseil down the 20 metre high cliffs.

Rollerblading
Students learn the basics of inline skating in a fun, crash-friendly environment! Riverlife rollerblading sessions are conducted by qualified and experienced instructors. Each session includes instruction, a safety briefing and equipment check. Students must wear and use the safety equipment provided by Riverlife. Safety equipment includes a helmet and protective elbow, knee and wrist pads.
Students will learn correct rollerblading posture and balance, how to start, stop, turn, and fall safely. Instructors will tailor their lesson to the skill level of the students in their group. Some groups may remain at Riverlife for the entire session, others may skate to South Bank or even over the Goodwill Bridge.
Years 8–12
This program aims to:

» demonstrate behaviors that promote personal and group safety
» develop gross motor skills, coordination, balance and fitness
» provide an opportunity for socialisation

Cycling
Mountain bikes
Students will learn how to use gears and bikeway rules. Our instructors will guide the group in single file on the bikeway alongside Brisbane River, through South Bank, over the Goodwill Bridge and then on to off-path cycling at the Botanical Gardens.
Riverlife can supply a range of mountain bikes to suit all needs. Bikes are fitted with bells,
drink carriers and adjustable seats. Riverlife cycling sessions are conducted by qualified and experienced instructors. Each session includes instruction, a safety briefing and equipment. Students must wear a helmet provided by Riverlife.
Kick bikes
Kick bikes are a great alternative mode of transport for students who may be a little unstable
on a regular bike or have physical concerns.
Years 8–12
This program aims to:

» develop gross motor skills, coordination and fitness

Riverlife Mirrabooka (Yuggera Aboriginal Dancers)
Students will experience rich Aboriginal culture presented by the Yuggera Aboriginal Dancers in the natural bushland of Kangaroo Point.
Students will develop an awareness of the diverse aspects of contemporary Aboriginal culture
by witnessing and participating in traditional songs and dances passed down over many generations, fire starting techniques and playing Aboriginal musical instruments. Additional activities such as boomerang throwing, message stick painting, face painting, clap stick painting and traditional food tasting can be arranged.
Since the group’s formation twelve years ago, the Yuggera Aboriginal Dancers have played to audiences in Australia and throughout the world. Audience members range from Queen Elizabeth II to the street children of Asia.
Riverlife Mirrabooka was the winner of the Queensland Premier’s Reconciliation Award for
Business in 2006 and in the same year, Riverlife Mirrabooka’s cofounder, Denise Ruska, was presented with Save the Children White Flame Award in recognition of her commitment and achievements in addressing the needs and rights of young Aboriginal people in Queensland. In 2007, Yuggera’s manager, Eddie Ruska, won the Governor’s / Griffith University Indigenous Community Engagement Award for keeping Aboriginal culture alive.

Riverlife School Holidays
Make the most of school holidays! Riverlife can provide you and your children with a real outdoor adventure in a fun and safe environment. Our school holiday programs and activities are available for parents, children and teachers! So join in the action – rock climb and abseil the towering Kangaroo Point Cliffs, or try a fun, guided kayak on the Brisbane River.
If you choose two or three activities, in a day, afternoon tea is included. This is a choice of an
ice-cream / Byron Bay cookie with a cold drink.
There’s no reason to be bored at home when Riverlife offers a range of exhilarating adventures
for everyone to enjoy! Join your children for the ultimate school holiday, one they will never forget. No experience necessary. Our friendly instructors are qualified and experienced and are happy to cater to your individual needs. Our amenities include change areas, complimentary lockers and sunscreen. Bookings essential.
